James Orsillo
Remote Project Engineer was founded by James Orsillo, a senior construction Project Manager and Project Engineer with decades of hands-on experience supporting complex construction projects across the United States.
James has worked from both sides of the trailer desk — managing the field while also carrying the documentation, coordination and project-engineering workload that keeps construction moving. Submittals, RFIs, drawing revisions, change orders, work plans, project records and closeout are not theoretical services at RPE. They are the day-to-day construction processes the company was built around.
RPE was created because experienced Project Managers should be spending their time managing cost, schedule, subcontractors, field execution and the client — not losing hours every week chasing paperwork and rebuilding project records.
James remains directly involved in RPE leadership, client oversight, project reviews, quality control and escalations as the company grows its Project Engineer support team.

Construction has a staffing problem that experienced Project Managers know well.
Good Project Engineers usually do not want to remain Project Engineers forever. The natural career path is toward Assistant Project Manager, Project Manager and eventually senior project leadership. That is exactly how it should be — but it creates a constant gap on active projects.
Contractors hire interns, recent graduates, transfer people between jobs or recruit from competitors, hoping to find someone who can step in quickly and understand the documentation, coordination and follow-through required to support a construction project.
Sometimes it works. Often the Project Manager still ends up carrying much of the workload.

James Orsillo kept coming back to the same thought:

We do not replace the Project Manager or Superintendent. We give them additional project-engineering capacity behind the scenes so the paperwork, records and open items do not continually pull them away from the work that requires their experience and judgment.
SUPPORT FOR THE CONTRACTORS WHO NEED IT MOST
The same problem exists further down the contracting chain.
Many specialty and trade contractors are excellent builders but do not have a full-time Project Engineer sitting in an office preparing submittals, organizing specifications, maintaining logs, developing work plans or assembling the documentation required by a General Contractor.
A masonry contractor, mechanical contractor, electrical contractor or smaller specialty firm may understand its work extremely well while still struggling with the administrative requirements surrounding that work.
That creates frustration for everyone.
